The Mommies’ Guide to Fitness

We’re all too familiar with the phrase “life begins at 40,” and this becomes true in the sense that you are entering another phase of developments like what you had in your childhood. Of course, we are also aware that not all of these developments are wanted. We could start feeling aches and pains in various parts of our bodies, and our general fitness may stagnate or even get bad when left unchecked.

But don’t panic just yet, because there IS something that you can do. For the moms out there who are entering the WOW (Wise Older Woman) phase, the following tips aim to help you maintain your ideal fitness level.

You Are What You Eat

Our diets change throughout life. When before you can indulge in meats and sweets as you like, now you will have to be picky to stay in tip-top shape.

First, you should tone down your intake of salty and fatty foods. Too much sodium in your system can lead to hypertension, heart problems, memory loss, and weight gain. If you really must add flavor to your meals, how about trying herbs and spices? Ginger powder, thyme, and cardamom are all good alternative flavorings to salt.

The foods that you should pick up on are the ones rich in antioxidants like berries, nuts, and tea. These nutritious goods help invigorate you to do more during the day, and also fights stress-causing elements in the body.

Get Up and Go

Hardly anybody can stay fit without doing exercise, so put on those sweatpants and start moving! There are plenty of ways to get a good workout these days, with new fitness trends coming out almost every month.

You can go for classics like Yoga and Tai Chi, which aside from working you out, also helps you meditate and relax your mind. You’ll also enjoy its fitness community which is mostly composed of people your age.

If you still think you can go for a more dynamic workout, CrossFit is also a trend that you can follow, which exercises the whole body for a holistic result. Another fitness trend here in the Philippines is taking Zumba classes. It’s fun, and there are a lot of free classes being done in malls too.

Don’t Forget

Another important body part that we need to exercise would be the mind. You wouldn’t want to be forgetting things all the darned time, would you?

One way to sharpen your brain functions is to keep learning new things. You can try and learn a different language, or maybe look for a new recipe online to cook for the family. Constantly thinking about new things keeps the brain happy, and the memory strong.

You can also play trivia games online. Not only will you be learning new facts every round, seeing your score getting better and better also gives that proud feeling.

Age is Just a Number

While age is just something you add to for every year that has passed, health is something that you need to actually monitor. After all, you would need to be healthy to actually enjoy life! With the tips given above, you should be able to spend more happy moments with your family, and also give yourself a good time.
